A video has emerged showing the body of the Pilot of the helicopter that crashed in Lagos tucked in a body-bag on the eve of take-off.

The Pilot was seen zipped up in the body-bag and dragged around by friends and colleagues joking, laughing and fooling around.

His friends were overheard singing: “Chika must go, Chika must go.”

Chika, laughing along, made to get out of the bag saying he had no visa and was not going anywhere.

The helicopters arrived Lagos from Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Thursday, the 28th of August and crashed into a residential garage at Salvation Avenue, Opebi, Lagos.

Eyewitnesses described the efforts of the pilot to achieve a safe landing. The eyewitness said the pilot was seen flying at a low altitude, obviously in distress. He guided the aircraft through the street to avoid colossal casualties

The pilot manoeuvred through the area and was seen avoiding landing on a hospital building, residential roof tops, a taxi stand and road traffic before crash-landing with difficulty into the car-park of a quiet residence.

The fences of the residence and that of the neighbour were slightly broken while the windscreen of a vehicle in the garage was shattered.

Two crew members were reported dead on the spot while the third died in hospital. The response of rescue teams comprising the fire service and the Lagos State Environmental Management Agency (LASEMA) has been commended by the public.

On Sunday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu visited the landladies of the premises (both very elderly) to commiserate with them on the damage to their properties. He also thanked GOD that no life was lost.

The governor promised to activate the relevant state authorities to test and ensure the structures of the buildings were not compromised by the impact of the crash. He added that government will also assist them rebuild their houses.

The helicopter is owned by Quorum Aviation and is confirmed to have valid licences. The licence of the pilot is also confirmed valid.
