Police Arrest 13 Suspected K!llers of Ekiti Monarchs

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of 13 men suspected of k!lling 2 monarchs in Ekiti State.

ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, stated that steps were being taken to address the security challenges in the state.

The incident occurred when gunmen attacked the Onimojo of Imojo, Oba Olatunde Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin, who were returning from a security meeting in Kogi State.

Luckily for the Alara of Ara Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, he narrowly escaped the attack. Days later, in the same area, kidnappers targeted a school bus and kidnapped 5 pupils, 3 teachers, and their driver.

According to Punch, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, strongly condemned the k!lling of the traditional rulers and the abduction of the school pupils and teachers.

To address the security challenges, Assistant Inspector General of Police, Abiodun Asabi, has been deployed to Zone 17 in Akure, Ondo State. The appointed AIG will coordinate a comprehensive security response to bring an end to the unfortunate incidents in Ekiti and parts of Ondo.

The statement also added that 13 suspects have been apprehended in connection with the crimes, and the IGP assured the public of the NPF’s commitment to ensuring justice and preventing future occurrences. The public was urged to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative as efforts are being made to restore peace and security in the affected areas.

The Chairman of Ekiti State Traditional Council and Olojudo of Ido Ekiti, Oba Ayorinde Ilori-Faboro, stated that the traditional rulers in the state would embrace any viable solution to the security crisis.

While he did not disclose the specific tactics that would be employed by the traditional council, he assured the public that the issue of insecurity would soon be resolved. Oba Faboro made these comments after an emergency meeting between the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji, all the monarchs in the state, and security chiefs, where the obas provided their advice on the way forward. He emphasized that the council would approach the problem with every possible solution.
