Police officers in Adamawa State have arrested a 34-year-old man named Tahamado Demian for allegedly kidnapping two Reverend Fathers from his church.

According to the Nation, the police took Demian to the state command headquarters in Yola after he was accused of abducting Reverend Fathers Abraham Samman and Matthew Dusami. The two priests are from the Catholic Dioceses of Yola and Jalingo.

The police spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, said the search for Demian began last month. The police launched a well-planned rescue operation at a criminal hideout located in a remote area of Gwaida Malam village, which lies between Numan and Demsa Local Government Areas.

Nguroje explained that the operation started on February 21 and continued until the suspect was finally caught over the weekend. After his arrest, Demian was taken into police custody for further investigation.

During the arrest, the police recovered a locally made assault rifle, a mobile phone, and several SIM cards from him.

Nguroje also confirmed that the two kidnapped priests were successfully rescued without any ransom being paid.
