The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspected notorious kidnapper and cattle rustler in Karaye Local Government Area.
The Commissioner of Police Hussaini Gumel, added that the police also recovered 55 cows from the suspect.
Gumel noted that the suspect was arrested by the command’s Anti-kidnapping Squad on Sunday, February 4 with 55 cows and 6 sheep.
On interrogation, the suspect was said to have confessed that he was running away from Maidaro bandits’ camp through Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna State after fighting with their rival camp, led by Boderi Isiya of the same address.
He added that his gang leader in Malumfashi LGA of Katsina State, including his assistant were k!lled during the gun battle, adding that he ran away with 3 AK-47 rifles and many cattle, preparing to settle in the forest of Gwarzo and Karaye LGAs.
The police disclosed further that he confessed to have participated alongside other camp members in several kidnapping and cattle rustling cases in Kaduna, Katsina and Zamfara states.
According to Gumel, “We have since launched a manhunt for the fleeing gang members.”
However, Gumel assured the state of the commitment of the police to provide adequate security for citizens and encouraged residents to volunteer credible information that would facilitate the arrest of the fleeing suspects.
