"Gist"

The Lagos State Police Command, last night, responded swiftly to save a lady who posted suicide intense thoughts on social media.

Identified by her Twitter and Facebook handles as Zainab Adakole, the lady had asked people to pray for her as she was having several panic attacks and fighting suicidal energy. She advised her address in her post.

Spokesperson of the state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a series of tweets said the DPO in Ajah led a team of officers to the address she listed but were unable to reach her.

Hundeyin added that on arrival at her residence in the high brow Lekki County Homes, Zainab refused to open her door.

He then appealed to her family to reach out to her and save her.

According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin@benhundeyin· “…our scarce resources. Family and friends are urged to reach out to her. Anyone on this app with useful contacts can put them to use now. Help save a soul. We remain on red alert…

At the time of this report, it is not certain if Zainab has been rescued.

A look at her Twitter and Facebook pages show she may have deleted her posts as even the post that drew police attention was no longer seen.

The Lagos State Police Command has been commended for its swift response to her threat at suicide. Other members of the public however see it as normal for police to act in this manner.

KWiwa@KenWiwa Replying to @benhundeyin Awesome. Lagos police is amazing. You guys rock. Keep it up! LAGOS IS A COUNTRY! Not in Nigeria !!

Foundational Black Onye Dot@EagleRye· Replying to @benhundeyinWhile this is commendable. Please save resources for actual police work and let that one be actually done. At best call attention to it or just refer appropriate services, and not handled by police.

Ọmọ́túndé@Funkemyfun· Replying to @benhundeyinA lot of people are going through trying phase in life especially with the prevailing economy situation, making some not being able to meet their responsibilities and obligations thereby leading to depression/mental health challenges, we need to be more kind/emphatic to each other

ubair@olupako· Stop hyping. This is d power of communique through data. If anyone was to be in her shoes in other state with ds online update the police dept would do same to rescue her. Else there will be consequences for the social media officer/s on duty for not responding.
