Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have fired teargas at a group of protesters around the federal secretariat in Abuja — Nigeria’s capital city.

The protesters, mostly youths stormed the streets in their numbers on Thursday to embark on a nationwide protest against economic hardship and soaring inflation.

In Abuja, the protesters were ordered to stay away from the Eagle Square and restrict themselves to the stadium. The defiant youths flouted the directive leaving the police with no option but to repel them with teargas.

The protests have been dubbed by many of them as ’10 days of rage’ with the hashtag #EndBadGovernance.

There is heavy police presence across the nation as the protest gathers momentum. However, many roads, especially where the Igbos reside or ply are deserted as their leaders earlier cautioned them against participating in the nationwide action.
