The Nigeria Police Force, Zamfara State Command has confirmed the arrest of a certain Jabiru Ibrahim for homicide and possession of a human body part.
The suspect was arrested in the Dauran district in Zurmi Local Government Area of the state.
Ibrahim was found to be a member of the proscribed local ‘security’ group popularly known as Yan Sakai.
The spokesperson of the Police Command, SP Mohammed Shehu, in a statement dated Monday, May 30 told newsmen that police operatives were investigating a case of culpable homicide against the suspect after he confessed to killing the owner of the hand found in his possession.
The PPRO disclosed that a bag containing a bunch of charms was also recovered from the suspect.
“The suspect was arrested by the Joint Police and Military Operatives on Anti-Banditry Operation along Dauran-Zurmi axis and brought to the Police Command Headquarters, Gusau for discreet investigation,” the statement read.
The Yan Sakai group to which Ibrahim belongs is reported to have been terrorising members of the Dauran Community with jungle justice, leading to reprisal attacks by bandit terrorists against innocent members of the public.
SP Shehu stated further that in the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed that he and three (3) other members of his gang now at large perpetrated the gruesome killing of one Abdullah, a Fulani by tribe and later the suspect removed the right hand of the deceased.
The Police PRO added that “Investigation is in progress with a view to arresting his partners in crime and to unravel the circumstances of their action before being charged to court for prosecution,”
