The Nigerian Police Force has de-kitted and dismissed an officer caught on camera assaulting a civilian with a cutlass.
The incident occurred on the 31st of July, 2022.
The development was met with public outrage with many calling for justice against the erring officer, PC Liyomo Okoi.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, personally expressed interest in the case and summoned Liyomo to his office in Abuja.
In a tweet on Friday, the force spokesperson, Prince Muyiwa Adejobi, said the IGP had summoned Liyomo to Abuja on Thursday and condemned him for his actions.

“Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Bureau (AIG-FIB) to carry out supervisory role over the three units to ensure their operations are professional, active and productive and do not infringe on the fundamental rights of the citizenry, and other members of the public.
“In the same vein, the Force has dismissed *Force No. 524503 PC Liyomo Okoi* attached to Ekori Div Headquarters, Cross Rivers Police Comd for gross misconduct captured in a viral video on 31st July, 2022 where he was flogging a man with a machete.
A member of the public, Snr John then requested that dismissing him is not enough, he should be sued:
“He doesn’t just need to dismissed……he needs be to sued and arrested to send a warning to other officers who are violent & corrupt …..youths can’t even go put in peace again & make a living to feed themselves & families just because there are some menaces in uniforms around.”
Prince Adejobi advised that the assaulted civilian is free to press charges:
“The man he flogged can take it up with him. Its a case of assault, so if the man he assaulted so wishes to take the case us, he can do. I am not even sure if he incidented the case at all. So he can carry on from here bro.“
