Corporal Opeyemi Kadiri, a Nigerian Police officer attached to Dolphin Divisional Headquarters, Lagos Police Command has been de-kitted and dismissed from the force.

The Nigeria Police Force dismissed the officer for gross misconduct, disobedience to lawful order, and assault on a member of the public.

His infractions were captured in a viral video on August 3, 2022.

The dismissed officer who enlisted into the Force on 6th December, 2016, was caught searching the commuter’s phone by the roadside contrary to the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba.

He was also seen in the viral video assaulting the commuter as he attempted to remind him of the IGP’s directive.

Many have hailed the courage of the civilian who did not cower in the face of oppression.

Some other members of the public expressed gratitude that the Corporal was not trigger happy as he could have shot the unnamed commuter and claimed accidental discharge.

Corporal Opeyemi Kadiri’s dismissal takes effect from Friday, the 12th of August, 2022.

A statement released by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, called on officers and men of the Force to maintain professionalism and civility to members of the public in the discharge of their duties in line with extant laws.

The Force equally called on members of the public to ensure proper conduct in all encounters with police officers to avoid infractions that may be subject to prosecution.
