The Niger State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has reacted to the killing of some of its officers by bandits in an attack on Wednesday.
The bandits yesterday kidnapped two Chinese nationals and killed at least thirteen security agents during the invasion of a mining site in the state.
The attackers are reported to have stormed Ajata, Aboki in Gurmana ward of Shiroro Local Government Area of the state in the afternoon, shooting sporadically in the air.
The Co-convener, Concerned Shiroro Youths of Niger State, Sani Kokki who confirmed the incident said the gunmen attacked the mining site and kidnapped a yet-to-be-identified number of people including two Chinese expatriates after killing some security operatives.
He noted that Major Anara, and Capt Abubakar Samido were among the military casualties in the invasion.
The Niger State Police Commissioner, Monday Bala Kuryas confirmed to newsmen that police officers were among those killed in the attack.
On his part, the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Affairs, Emmanuel Umar said that a joint security team mobilised to the area and engaged the terrorists.
He said many of the joint security operatives sustained injuries, adding that the number of casualties is yet to be confirmed.
Umar added that some of the gunmen were killed during the rescue effort, and that some security operatives were rescued and taken to a government medical centre for treatment.
