Police spokesperson, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, has reacted to the launch of the ‘Jagaban army’ for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
Over the weekend, social media was in a frenzy after the National Youth Leader of APC, Dayo Israel, inaugurated a campaign group called the ‘Jagaban Army’.
The unit is viewed by many as the militia arm of the party allegedly set up to effect voter intimidation.
According to Dayo Israel, the Jagaban Army is a group of youths who would mobilize and deliver the needed votes for Bola Tinubu in the forthcoming election.
The uniform worn by members of the group has similarities with that of Nigerian security uniforms.
Concerned Nigerians taking to the microblogging platform, Twitter, called the attention of the Nigerian Police force, stating that the move is troubling and there is a tendency that other political parties might do likewise.
Many believe that the move is a threat to national security which is capable of brewing tension and chaos.
Reacting via his Twitter page, Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi said he is unaware of the ‘Jagaban Army’ and would make findings about it.
He called on anyone with more information on the development to send it to the security forces.
He wrote: “Well, i am not aware of this. I will make findings about this. Its strange to me as a person, and i am sure the Force too is not aware of this. But anyone with more information about this can send to our official email, Pressforabuja@police.gov.ng. thanks.”
