Nigeria Police Force has suspended two female supernumerary officers, Obaze Blessing with SPY number 5709, and Obaze Emmanuella Uju with SPY number 5708 whose video recently went viral on the internet.

The two officers were suspended for breach of the provisions of the Police Act, 2020 and the NPF guidelines for recruitment, promotion and discipline of supernumerary police 2013.

Days back, one of the suspended officers shared images of herself and her colleague slaying together in mufti and police uniform.

The video was captioned, ‘sis that slay together work together, miss you big sis.’ The video was however, greeted by mixed reactions after it surfaced the internet.

Barely three days after the video surfaced on the internet, the Nigeria Police Force issued a statement that the two officers have been suspended from the police force effective immediately.

According to the Police Press Release, the officers portrayed themselves as ‘undisciplined and unprofessional,’ in the viral video which is in contravention of the Police Social Media Policy.

It was also disclosed that the officers defied the mode of dressing of SPY Police Officers by wearing regular police uniform in contravention of the SPY Police mode of dressing.

The Force statement noted that”The mode of dressing of SPY Police mandates its SPY officers above the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police not to wear uniforms. Similarly, extant laws delineate the supernumerary uniform. It states that they must be on their approved uniform, ash coloured shirt with ‘SPY’ inscriptions all over, over black with shoulder badge carrying the word, ‘SUPERNUMERARY’.

In the wake of their suspension, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, issued strict warnings on the incessant, illegal and unwarranted use of Police Uniforms restricted to bonafied serving officers of the Nigeria police Force.
