The Governor of Rivers State and Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nyesom Wike has warned former President Goodluck Jonathan against being lured into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Wike told Jonathan that the APC has no good intentions for him. He said that a critical analysis of the situation shows that the party does not like the ex-president and only wants to ruin his hard-earned reputation.
He warned Jonathan not to be deceived by the lure of getting the ruling party’s 2023 presidential ticket as it is a ploy to ruin his name.
The Rivers State Governor bared his mind during an interview on Friday with BBC News Pidgin when he discussed rumours of Jonathan’s possible defection from PDP to APC.
Wike cautioned Jonathan not to fall the antics of the ruling party reminding him of the wicked and hateful things they said about him during the 2015 presidential election.
“I will tell him no to go anywhere. These people don’t like you. You should know them very well that they don’t like you. What have they not said about you ? Have all the things they said about you changed ?
“APC are only intent on bringing in PDP people who has name, and destroy them so that they will not have anywhere to go again. That’s what APC is doing.
Wike stressed that he has nothing but respect for the former President saying that if he wants to contest for presidency, he go under PDP and not APC.
He noted if Jonathan decides to contest, he will support his ambition.
According to him, “I respect the former President. I know he is a man of integrity. If I have the chance to advise him, I’d tell him, ‘Sir, please don’t make that mistake. If you want to run for president, run under PDP. Nigerians cherish you more than this government. They have seen that all the things government told them are lies.’
“If he runs under PDP, he can be assured that I will staunchly support him,” Wike said.
