President Muhammadu Buhari has won a major international award for his efforts at improving infrastructure as well as the Covid19 vaccine initiative.
He was declared winner of the 2021 great Builder Super Prize for Trophee Babacar Ndiaye.
Buhari takes over from Abdel Fattah al-Sissi of Egypt who won the the award in 2020.
Nigeria’s President was initially named the winner during the inaugural African Builders Conference which held in Cairo, Egypt.
According to the selection committee, Nigeria’s efforts at improving road safety and air quality informed the selection of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The latest announcement was contained in a statement from the African Development Bank (AfDB) on Friday.
The award ceremony will hold on the 24th of June during the AfDB Annual Meetings.
Also mentioned in the award criteria is Nigeria’s efforts at obtaining the Covid19 vaccines and advancing transport projects especially in the rail sector.
On his part, Former Egyptian President Fattah al-Sissi was given the award “for his personal leadership and for the efforts made to ensure road safety and the health of the population in the context of transport.”
