Press Briefing by Covid-19 Presidential Task Force

A press briefing held today by #COVID19 Presidential Task Force, chaired by the Centre’s Director General, @Chikwe_Ihekweazu.

The Director General shared five major targets to be focused on by the centre’s response team during the week.
They include:
  1. Collection of samples within 8 hours of notification of the team
  2. Turnaround time for testing and results must be less than 8 hours.
  3. 2,000 tests to be conducted daily in Lagos and 1,000 daily in the FCT by the end of the week.
  4. Isolate patients within less than 6 hours after confirmation of positive results.
  5. Ensure isolation of each confirmed case.

During the press briefing, an official case definition templated was also presented by Ihekweazu. The template also serves to answer basic frequently asked questions.

Two more molecular testing laboratories have been added to the already existing ones.
This brings the number of labs to 12 and ensures faster turnaround time of each test. It also enables NCDC meet it daily test targets.
According to the DG, “With the inclusion of two more laboratories over the weekend- one in Lagos and one in Abuja- our goal is to scale up testing capacity and ensure that every case that meets the case definition is tested.
