Private Jet Crashes at Lagos Airport

A private jet has crashed at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

The jet belonging to Jedidiah Air is reported to have crashed into a fence on Friday morning while repacking. The propeller-powered aircraft was taxiing at the tarmac near the facility used by Bristow Helicopters when it developed a break failure

The private jet, is a King Air 200 with registration number 5N-HIS operated by Mobil Oil Nigeria Wings Aviation.

Tunji Oketumbi, spokesman for the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) said that a team of investigators have visited the scene of the crash. He added that the team would submit a preliminary report on the cause of the crash.

According to him, “we have been notified of an accident that occurred at the local airport and our investigators have gone there to commence investigations. 

The Nation newspaper quotes an eyewitness as saying that the crash occurred at about 10:00am due to break failure:

“The accident happened around 10:00am at the tarmac beside Bristow Helicopter Hanger 3. The jet had no passenger on board with the pilot suffering no injury.

“The break of the jet was not functioning which led to the collision of the jet with the fence of Bristow Helicopter hanger,” the witness said.
