Professor Ambrose Ali, Others Granted Presidential Pardon

Professor Ambrose Ali, former governor of the old Bendel State has been granted presidential pardon by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Equally pardoned is renowned nationalist, Late Chief Anthony Enahoro who was instrumental to Nigeria’s independence. Other are Lt Col Moses Effiong, Major EJ Olanrewaju and Ajayi Olusola Babalola.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola today at a world news conference in Abuja.

According to Aregbesola, the gesture by President Buhari means that the listed persons were never convicted.

Speaking at the conference, Aregbesola said,

“I am pleased to inform you that 5 ex-convicts recommended for presidential pardon have been so pardoned.

“They are late Professor Ambrose Ali, Late Chief Anthony Enahoro, ex Lt Col Moses Effiong, Major EJ Olanrewaju and Ajayi Olusola Babalola.

“Professor Ali was the governor of the old Bendel State in the second Republic (1978 – 1983) and a great progressive while Chief Enahoro was a foremost nationalist who moved the motion for Nigeria’s independence.

“I must thank and commend President Buhari for demonstrating great statesmanship by pardoning these people who were part of the great Nigerian History,” Aregbesola added

Also pardoned are 70 inmates of the Kuje Correctional Centre. This is with a view to decongesting the centre.
