Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has requested the transfer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) case against him to Kogi State.
Bello’s legal team argued that since the alleged offence was committed during his tenure as governor, it is only proper for the case to be heard in Kogi State.
He is facing a 19-count charge bordering on his alleged complicity in money laundering, breach of trust and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of about N80.2billion
The EFCC will be prosecuting the case on behalf of the federal government.
The arraignment is listed as number 7 on Justice Emeka Nwite’s cause list.
There was however, mild drama at the court premises as protesters loyal to the former governor matched on the court premises but were quickly dispersed by the police.
