The family of renowned actress, Rachel Oniga has confirmed her death but debunked rumours that she died of covid19 complications.

The latest information was given by her older sister, Toyin Odusote.

Ms Odusote told Premium Times that, “Contrary to diverse reports informing she died of covid19 complications, we write to inform the general public that she died from heart-related issue: an ailment she battled for a short period before her demise.

Odusote added that Oniga died in a Lagos hospital on Friday night at about 10:00pm.

The statement further informed the public that, “We accept her sudden transition as God’s design and we see it as a function of a race of life well finished. Painful as it may be, we accept it in good faith and total submission to her maker.

“Burial arrangements will be announced in due course. We appreciate the calls, messages and condolences expressed by everyone and pray for a sweet repose of her beautiful soul. Please accept this release as the only authentic one on behalf of the family until we come up with another. “

Oniga’s Profile:

Born on the 23rd of May 1957 in Ebute MettaLagos State, Rachel is an indigene of Eku, Delta State

Her first movie role was the Yoruba classic drama, ‘Owo Blow.’

She has featured in over 100 of the best Yoruba and English Nollywood movies and was rehearsing for one a few days before her death.

She was a full-time housewife but soon after her divorce, became a computer programmer, tried her hands on business trading, travelling, buying and selling.

She also worked briefly at Ascoline Nigeria Limited, a Dutch Consulting Company from where she forayed into the Nollywood classic (Memorial Hospital) in 1993 and her debut Yoruba movie ‘Owo Blow.’
