The Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege has given reasons why the murdered former aide to Former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak visited Imo State.
According to him, Gulak was on a national assignment in the state on behalf of the Senate Committee on Constitution Review.
The former presidential aide was on his way to the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport to catch a flight to Abuja when he was killed.
After his death, a Northern group threatened to carry out a reprisal attack if those who killed him were not made to account for their actions.
This morning, members of the upper legislative chamber observed a minute silence in honour of Gulak after the Deputy Senate President formally informed plenary of the assassination.
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan said that, “the late Hon Ahmed Gulak was a very committed, dedicated citizen of this country. Very distinguished politician, who made tremendous contributions at both the state level in Adamawa and the National Level.
“The muder of this Nigerian is something that our security agencies must unravel, the murder and the people behind the murder itself. This is necessary in all the murders and assassinations that take place in our country on almost a daily basis.
“Our security agencies, particularly our intelligence agencies must continue to fish out such issues even before they happen.
“Let me also join you in praying for the soul of late Ahmed Gulak and also condole with his family, his state government and the people of Nigeria.”
