“Reason Awolowo Did Not Fulfil His Destiny,” Pastor Daniel Olukoya, GO MFM

The General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Pastor Daniel Olukoya has revealed reasons Chief Obafemi Awolowo did not fulfil his destiny.

In a sermon featured in Church Gist, a Facebook Christian page, the pastor said that Chief Awolowo’s unwillingness to give his life to Christ denied him his ambition.

According to Dr Olukoya, the great leader had great ideas that would have steered Nigeria to greatness. At Federal carbinet meetings, his opinions always held stakeholders in awe. Unfortunately, most of his dreams for Nigeria could not be realised because he could not lead the nation.

“If only the elder statesman had given Jesus a chance in his life, his destiny would have been much better than it turned out. ”

This according to him is in spite of efforts by renowned Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola to lead the very respected Yoruba leader to Christ.

In the sermon, Pastor Olukoya said:

“The great Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola once went to the house of Chief Obafemi Awolowo…

“Now let me be honest with you as a man of God. By the time the Civil War of Nigeria ended, Odumegwu Ojukwu said, ‘Nigeria did not fight us, Awo fought us…’

“Because he was Minister of Finance at that time, Nigeria did not borrow 1 kobo. Not only that, he gave some advise that made the victory possible.

“Then when he (Awolowo) died, Ojukwu said that this man was ‘the president Nigeria never had.’

“When they say Presidential Debate, and you put Awo on TV to debate with others, by the time Awo begins to talk, the others look like fools. They look like fools because the knowledge with which he is talking and what he is saying, make them look like fools.

Speaking further, Pastor Olukoya said that, “I had a friend who was in the Executive Military Council during the time of Gowon, the time they brought Awolowo from Calabar prison to become Finance Minister. He said when they brought him to the Executive Council,  he sat down and looked at all those soldiers.

“He said ‘you want to make me Minister of Finance ? Ok, let me give you a short lecture. Then he gave those military boys a shot lecture on Primary Economics.

“When they were going to do FESTAC ’77, they asked for Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s opinion and he said, ‘this FESTAC ’77 is a show of our primitivity’ and that the white man will be quite happy to see us exhibit our primitivity.

“He said that the money that would be used for FESTAC ’77 should be spent on technology, for education, for things that will move the people forward, not going back to the idols that dragged us to where we were, and the man had this uncanny attribute of being right.

“They once asked him a question during a TV interview, They asked, ‘why is it that you don’t take advise from other politicians ?’ he said ‘Advise ? How can I take advise from someone who is busy dancing with free women on the streets at night when I am busy thinking about how we can move things forward ?’

“The President I see that matches Awo in Intelligence is Fidel Castro of Cuba. When you see that one talk, you will know that this man understands what he is talking about.

In conclusion, Pastor Olukoya said that “the great Apostle Joseph Babalola went to visit Awolowo. Awo was not at home. He met his wife, Hannah Dideolu. Apostle Babalola said, ‘thus saith the Lord, the Lord said he has called me on the spiritual arena and he has called this man on the political arena.

“For this man to fulfil his calling, he has to surrender his life to Jesus.” Awo never surrendered his life to Jesus till he died and Awo never fulfilled his destiny.”
