On April 14, 2014, about 276 students of Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, were kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists.

The abduction caused a worldwide public outcry with many world leaders and notable global personalities, calling for the return of the girls.

Most vehement among them is the wife of the US President at that time, Michelle Obama.

Many of the students have regained their freedom, but about 100 are still believed to be in captivity.
