Some religious leaders, today, stormed the venue of the unveiling of the former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima as the Vice Presidential Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) despite the huge controversy trailing the selection.
The former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu sparked outrage across the country two weeks ago after he announced Shettima as the vice-presidential candidate of the APC.
He made the announcement during his visit to President Muhammadu Buhari in his country home in Daura, Kastina State.
The APC presidential candidate announced Shettima as his running mate despite protests and arguments that stated that the option of a Muslim-Muslim ticket did not reflect a multi-religious society like Nigeria.
Notwithstanding the protests, Tinubu on Wednesday alongside other APC stalwarts, including the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, officially unveiled Shettima at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
Amongst the huge turn out of members and supporters seen at the event, a photo captured various Christian leaders who refused to identify their churches also present at the event.
Most of the religious leaders hid their faces from journalists’ cameras and refused to grant interviews.
One of them however, stated that Shettima was kind to them when he was governor.
