Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama has announced that the Republic of Benin is ready to become Nigeria’s 37th State.
The Minister said that the President of the Republic of Benin, Patrice Talon made his country’s position known when he visited the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari a few weeks ago.
According to Onyeama, “The President of Benin said as far as they concerned, they want (not just saying it like that) but in reality, Benin should be the 37th state of Nigeria
“Talon added that “We should really be one. They charged us to come together at the ministerial level, to work out a framework for a sustainable relationship.”
Nigeria’s Minister added that during the visit, both presidents discussed agreements between the two countries on how to tackle smuggling.
This is with a view to bringing it to an end. That discussion will form part of a follow up to the meeting of both presidents.
