Activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has called on President Bola Tinubu to reject the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) advice to increase fuel and electricity tariffs.
In a statement personally signed and sent to Vanguard on Friday, Falana noted the disparity between the IMF’s directives to Nigeria and its advice to other nations.
Falana who is also the Chairman of the Alliance on Surviving Covid 19 and Beyond (ASCAB), referenced the IMF’s recent directive to the UK Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, advising against tax cuts and emphasizing the need for fiscal consolidation.
Falana pointed to recent developments in Nigeria’s energy sector, including the Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu’s revelation that President Tinubu had halted the implementation of a hike in electricity tariffs.
He cited the need for improved power supply and consideration for the Nigerian citizens who are already overburdened with multidimensional economic hardships.
