Nnamdi Kanu's Lawyers Fight over N5.6 Million Fraud

‘Return Nnamdi Kanu’s Eyeglasses to Him’ – Justice Nyako Orders DSS

News - Women's Perspective

The presiding judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Justice Binta Nyako has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to return the eyeglasses of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu to him.

The order came after the counsel to the embattled IPOB leader, Mike Ozekhome lamented during Wednesday’s hearing that his client was fast losing his sight if nothing is done about it.

The human rights lawyer accused the DSS of confiscating the pro-Biafra activist eyeglasses in 2015 when he was initially arrested by the agency’s operatives.

Ozekhome also complained that the DSS has failed to allow his client to change his clothes despite an earlier order by the court.

Lawyer to the prosecution, Shuaib Labaran said the clothes brought by Kanu’s family had a lion heart drawn on them, adding that such designs offend their operating procedures of the DSS.

Justice Nyako later asked Kanu to indicate the type of cloth he prefers to wear. The IPOB leader replied that he wants to wear the clothes of my people.

In a ruling on Wednesday, Justice Nyako ordered the security agency to immediately return the eyeglasses to the IPOB leader for him not to go blind as stated by his counsel.

But the presiding judge also rejected his insistence of being allowed to wear Igbo traditional attire known as “isi agu.”

Hearing on his case has been adjourned to April 2022.
