More revelations of the massive corruption that has become synonymous with the NDDC (Nigeria Delta Development Commission) was further exposed today.
In his contribution to the hearing, a concerned Niger Delta youth, and spokesperson of the Niger Delta Rights, Darlington Nwauju paints a picture of what is alleged to be the order of the day in the Commission.
In News monitored on Channels TV and posted by Somto Okonkwo, the youth is seen obviously peeved by the situation. He describes some of the massive corruption in the NDDC and how the Minister steers the ship.
According to Nwauju:
“NDRA complained to Nigerians about the approval that the Minister of the Niger Delta went to seek from the FEC President Muhammadu Buhari and the FEC approved that the NDDC purchases or procures 62 operational vehicles to the tune of N1.599 billion at the detriment of the ordinary and suffering peoples of the Nigeri Delta.”
Holding up a copy of the Vanguard, he continues that: “This is another publication still in the Vanguard dated Friday, June 19th, 2020.
“When we uncovered the plot, by Prof Pondei and his team, to deceive Nigerians by packing into an uncompleted headquarters in order to justify the 100% payment which has been made to the contractor and we were wondering, if we were in the country of sane minds.”
Lamenting the blatant massive corruption in the NDDC, Nwauju says he regrets being called a Niger Deltan. In his words, “Mr Chairman and members of this honourable committee, I am ashamed to be called a Niger Deltan because our corruption perception index deeps by the day.
He further describes how the Niger Delta Minister “told Nigerians that the NDDC has packed into an uncompleted building, a 16 floor headquarters.
“How can you claim ? How can any sane mind believe you when you say it has reached 95% completion ?
“This is the claim by the Minister for the Niger Delta and the unofficial spokesperson of the NDDC who has hijacked the role of the Director of Corporate Communications of the NDDC, Dr Cairo Ojiugbo, a medical doctor who ordinarily by the Establishment Act 2000 of the NNDC has no right to serve as Acting Executive Director Projects. If this country were to be a nation of laws. How can a medical doctor be asked to do an engineering job.”
The world looks forward to more revelations of the wanton, blatant and massive corruption that appears to characterise the Ministry and the NNDC as the hearing continues.
