The Governor of Plateau State, Solomon Lalong has demonstrated a passion for academic excellence.
He recently granted scholarship to a Plateau State student who scored 9 ‘A1’s in the West African Examinations Council exams.
Miss Sylvia Ulan Andrew, displayed her academic prowess in the recently published WAEC results.
The brilliant student is from Bokkos Local Government Area of the state and graduated from Premier Academy in Abuja.
She was received at the State House in Jos with her mother where she got the news of Governor Lalong’s offer of a scholarship to any tertiary institution of her choice.
Miss Andrew is said to have a history of academic excellence from childhood.
Prior to the latest scholarship, Sylvia Andrew was recognised by Shell Petroleum when she emerged the overall best student in the national common entrance examination.
Lalong praised her mother for raising her singlehandedly without her father who died before she was born.
While thanking the governor for the offer, the young lady told the governor that she hopes to become a chemical engineer.
Sylvia also vowed not to disappoint the government and people of Plateau State.
Dan Manjang, Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Communication made the announcement in a post on his social media handle @DanManjang:
“…she scored A1 in all the subjects she sat for during the last examination. Ulan who is from Bokkos LGA of the State is a student of Premier Academy, Lugbe Abuja.
“She is said to have a history of record-breaking having emerged overall best at national common entrance examination which earned her a scholarship by the Shell Petroleum Company.
“Governor Lalong congratulated her for the feat and said he was not surprised because of the abundant talents available in the State. He said the State will grant her scholarship to any University of her choice.
“He praised her mother for raising her single-handedly since the death of her husband even before Ulan was born.
“Plateau State Coordinator on SDGs Mr. Sam Damla who led the family to Government House’ Little Rayfield said the performance of the student again shows the potentials that the people of Plateau State possess which must be harnessed.
“Ulan thanked the Governor for the reception and promised not to disappoint him and the people of Plateau State. She explained that her passion is to be a Chemical Engineer.
