Barely 24 hours after Edison Ehie, the house of assembly speaker loyal to the Rivers state governor, Siminilayi Fubara resigned, the latter has assured that no amount of political crisis will truncate the tenure of his administration.
He stated that he remains totally committed to sincerely serving the Rivers people who trusted him with their mandate.
The Rivers State governor made the assertion while speaking at the crossover church service at St Paul’s Archdeaconry Parish in Opobo town on 2024 New Year’s Eve in Opobo/Nkoro local government area (LGA).
Fubara said those fighting his administration want to dampen the spirit of Rivers people and forcefully truncate the pace of development, but have failed.
He encouraged Rivers people not to be disheartened over the current crisis because nothing will stop him from steering the affairs of the state successfully.
He said: “What they want is this red biro, but it is still with me. “We are the winners because we are still signing with the red biro. “As long as we are signing with the red biro, development will continue in Rivers state.”
Fubara emphasised that nothing will stop his administration from getting to its destination because its foundation is laid solidly in God who alone will give the grace to complete the process of building.
The governor, however, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the fatherly role he played when he intervened to assist in the process of restoring peace in Rivers state.
Governor Fubara used the occasion to express gratitude to Rivers people for their unwavering support, describing them as believers in true Rivers state. He urged them to trust the decisions that he makes.
Earlier, the factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and ally of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Edison Ehie, resigned from his position and membership of the House.
It was gathered that Edison’s resignation was contained in a letter dated December 29, 2023, and signed by him.
The letter was addressed to the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu.
“This is to inform you of my voluntary resignation as Speaker and member of the 10th River State House of Assembly representing Ahoada- East Constituency II with effect from the date of this letter (29th, December 2023)” the statement reads partially
The speaker’s resignation comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu intervened in the political crisis rocking the state, after which some resolutions were made and signed by the parties involved.
