The Cameroon Football Federation President and the country’s former international start, Samuel Eto’o has broken his silence on the fight between him and a photographer in Qatar.
The football star on Tuesday issued a public apologizing for his behaviour and added that he would continue to avoid provocation from some supporters of Algeria.
Cameroon FA President, Samuel Eto’o attacked and brutally beat up a photographer in Qatar on Tuesday.
A viral video on social media showed the moment the former Barcelona star descended on a photographer who seemed to have been stalking him while being led by some FIFA officials at the World Cup in Qatar.
The incident happened at the 974 Stadium. Eto’o was escorted out of the stadium while a crowd of fans approached him for photos and pleasantries.
Speaking about the question he asked Eto’o, an Algerian YouTuber, Said Mamouni, has opened up on his rift with Cameroon legend, Samuel Eto’o. Speaking on the incident, Mamouni said he has reported it to Qatari police.
He also revealed the question he asked Eto which led to the scuffle.
According to the Youtuber, he asked the former footballer how Bakary Gassama was doing.
Speaking via his YouTube Channel, he said: “I’m at the police station to file a complaint against Eto’o. He hit me, and someone else with him pushed me and destroyed my camera.
“I asked him how is Bakary Gassama [referee that took charge of African World Cup playoff] and if he gave him a bribe. He then hit me and destroyed both my camera and mic.”
On his part, taking to his Twitter account on Tuesday evening, Eto’o said the incident does not depict his personality.
He added that those accusing him of bribery have no evidence against him but are just pestering him.
In his words: “I would like to apologize for losing my temper and reacting in a way that does not match my personality. I apologize to the public for this unfortunate incident.
“I pledge to continue to resist the relentless provocation and daily harassment of some Algerian supporters.
“Indeed, since the Cameroon-Algeria match on March 29 in Blida, I have been the target of insults and allegations of cheating without any evidence,”
