The Executive Governor of Lagos State has inaugurated a panel of inquiry to probe the collapsed Ikoyi building in Lagos.
He gave the update a statement released today at his office in Alausa.
According to jidesanwoolu
“We swore in the tribunal of inquiry into the collapsed 21 storey building on Gerrard road in ikoyi.
This event, though sad but necessary to forestall a reoccurrence in future.
We are aware that Lagosians and the rest of the world will be watching and waiting keenly, with the full expectation that the immediate and remote causes of this tragedy will be uncovered.
“Therefore, the panel which consists of President of Nigeria Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Mr. Toyin Ayinde, as Chairman, Ekundayo Onajobi, as the Secretary, and Dr. Akintilo Idris Adeleke, Yinka Ogundairo, a representative of Institute of Builders, Mr. Godfrey O. Godfrey, and Mrs. Bunmi Ibrahim, are expected to make recommendations regarding how best to ensure that we prevent a recurrence in Lagos state, and how to improve our response and rescue capabilities in the event of emergencies.
“They will also be expected to make recommendations bordering on the dispensation of justice, the sanctioning of any and all persons and institutions found culpable.
“The work of the panel will not bring back those we have lost, but it will help ensure that their tragic and needless deaths will not have been in vain. We owe it to the people of Lagos state to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again.
“Once again let me use this opportunity to extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of all the victims, and to say that we will ensure that every person deemed missing on account of this collapse is accounted for.
May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace. Amen.“
