Cattle rearers suspected to be Fulani Herdsmen, on Thursday, attacked Owode-Ketu and Ijoun villages in the Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The herders are reported to have killed two persons in the attack.
The victim’s are identified as Isiaka Apesin and Oguntosin Adebayo who were killed on their way to their farms in an ambush by the rampaging herders.
Villagers said that the herdsmen stormed the villages after the killings and started shooting indiscriminately to scare away the residents.
An eye witness told Punch that after the incident, the assailants ran into the bush while Mr Sina Olaleye, youth leader of the community said the assailants wore bullet proof vests
The tension in the atmosphere by the next day, today, Friday, compelled the villagers desert schools and hospitals, while the authorities also shut them down.
The Baale of Owode-Ketu, Rev Sanya Fabuyi confirmed the incident saying that the herdsmen came with sophisticated weapons.
According to Olaleye, “The herdsmen were more than 100 and some were putting on bulletproof vests. They are still in the forest now and the police are combing the forest.
“All schools and businesses have been shut down and our people are indoors for fear of being attacked.”
Speaking about the incident on behalf of the Governor, Dapo Abiodun, The Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin said that, “Ogun cannot be defined by crimes and criminalities. Ogun does not have any haven – safe or unsafe – for killers, insurgents or cultists.
“We shall spare no action, including ruthless ones to bring peace, public order into every hamlet, town and city in the Gateway state.
