Security Operatives Take over as Customers Besiege CBN Kaduna (video)

Reports just in say that some fierce looking security operatives have taken over the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Kaduna branch.

This comes as hundreds of residents besieged the entrance gate Friday morning with sacks of old naira notes to swap for new ones.

The depositors arrived the entrance gate as early as 7:30 am in line with the CBN directive.

The bank had ordered customers of commercial banks to deposit their old currency no later than today, February 17.

A customer identified as Mrs Samson Ejira told Daily Post that she came with all the requirements needed to deposit her old currency, but the apex bank had not attended to her.

“I was here on Thursday, but nobody, no staff of the bank, attended to us. I am hoping that they will attend to us today,” she said.

Also, Mrs. Rhoda Usman, who spoke in a similar vein, said they were confused in Kaduna on the use of the old currency notes.

“The bank is not attending to us. Rather, they lined up several security operatives against us,”she lamented.

This comes in spite of yesterday’s statewide broadcast by Governor Nasir El-Rufai urging residents to continue to transact with the old naira notes.

Meanwhile, bank customers that transact in high volumes of money continue to take their money to the banks.

A dealer in flour was seen with his boys taking sacks of money to the Central banks on Thursday.

According to him, he makes huge sums of money daily and needs to deposit them as he receives them.
