Once again, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has revealed that there is nothing in the Nigerian constitution called security vote.
Obi stated that anyone saying there is security vote is not telling the truth as it was formulated in the Nigerian polity for reasons he cannot explain.
The former Anambra State Governor added that there is only a contingency fund which is “today, being abused as it has become our biggest source of waste.”
Obi noted that the fund “is not supposed to be more than 2 to 4% of the expenditure, but we have a situation today where it constitutes more than 20-30%.”
The presidential candidate added that as governor, someone once told him that his security vote could be as much as N1 billion per month or N12 billion per annum.
He said: “Fine, how much are we giving to primary schools per year ? And we have 1,040 primary schools, it means if we give each primary school N5 million, it will amount to N5 billion.
“We have 57 secondary schools, we will give each N10 million per year.
“We have 4 critical hospitals that were built by the churches…, share the balance to the hospitals most of which were owned by NGOs. and leave just 1.5% of the N12 billion for security vote.”
