Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani has reacted to the abduction of 8 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) travelling to their camp in Sokoto State.
Gunmen suspected to be bandits waylaid the AKTC bus the young Nigerians were traveling in along a highway in Zamfara.
The incident occured on Saturday, while traveling inside from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto State via Zamfara State.
According to a Vanguard report, “Apart from the 8 corps members, the driver of the bus was also abducted.
“The corps members were offloaded (from the bus) and taken into the bush. The police have recovered the bus.
“They left here (Uyo) on Friday, and slept over in Abuja. It was when they were proceeding to Sokoto that they were kidnapped.”
Senator Sani lamented that it was an avoidable tragedy.
He urged the government to do everything in its power to ensure that the victims are set free.
According to him, “The news of the abduction of Youth Corpers by terrorists along the highway in Zamfara state is unfortunate; it’s an avoidable tragedy, knowing the dangers of that road, but we now have to deal with it.
“Everything must be done by the Government to secure the lives and freedom of the victims.”
