Seun Kuti, the embattled Afrobeat singer, and son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, who is remanded at the State Criminal, Investigations and Intelligence Department, SCIID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos State, faced rejection by inmates the day he went into custody.

Reports say that when Seun Kuti, was taken to the cell to join other suspected criminals, other inmates started protesting and banging their metal protective doors that. They insisted they did not want him among them and he should be taken out of the place. The protest almost got violent as the inmates screamed he be taken out.

The source, who spoke under the condition of anonymity said that, “In order for them to allow him to stay in his cell, as the uproar by the inmates escalated, he started negotiating for peace to reign. And that was when he noticed that the commotion his presence caused and his rejection by the inmates attracted little or no attention from the police guards.”

The source added that, “At this stage, he then promised to give out N25,000 to the inmates and he was directed to produce it without delay. He had to beg for his phone to call his wife who quickly brought the money.

The source added that it only when “he gave the inmates N25,000 before he was allowed to stay inside his cell. And the inmates subsequently accepted him and they provided a space for him to sit down.”
