Minister of the Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio has threatened to sue Joy Nunieh over allegations of sexual harassment.
The Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State says he has ordered his lawyers to begin legal redress against the former NDDC Managing Director for the accusations.
Social Assistant to the Minister on Media, Aniete Ekong made this known in a statement this afternoon, 17th July. According to him, the allegations against the Minister are “false, malicious and libellous.”
The statement:
“Akpabio has instructed his lawyers to seek necessary redress in a court of competent jurisdiction on his behalf over the defamatory statements made by the former Acting Managing Director of the Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Ms Joy Nunieh.’
“The Honourable Minister’s initial attitude was to allow his lawyers and the judicial system vindicate him of the false allegations against him, but he is compelled to react to some of the wayward allegations levelled against his person by Ms Nunieh, especially one bothering on sexual harassment .
Since the beginning of the week, there has been drama between both principal figures of the NNDC. one of the reasons for the drama is that of sexual harassment that Joy Nunieh levelled against Akpabio.
Nunieh was, yesterday, rescued by the Rivers State Governor Nyesome Wike when yet to be identified police officers invaded her Port Harcourt home to arrest her. Reasons for the the arrest are not yet know, while the person who ordered Nunieh’s arrest is not yet named.
