Seyitan Babatayo has withdrawn her rape petition against songwriter and singer, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo also known as D’Banj.
In a letter by her lawyer, Olamide Omileye, dated July 17 and addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Seyitan said she was withdrawing her petition for personal reasons.
Following her letter, the Nigeria Police Force cleared D’Banj of the rape allegations.
Part of the letter read:
“We hereby officially notify you of our client’s intention to withdraw and discontinue her petition against Mr Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo aka D’Banj for personal reasons.
“Our client further humbly applies that the investigation and all other action that is currently being carried out by the police with respect to the statement be withdrawn.”
In his summary of the developments, Umar Sanda, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Admin) stated that the case was stopped for lack of substantial evidence against the suspect.
On his part, D’Banj is going on with his N1.5 billion libel suit against Seyitan Babatayo despite the fact that she has withdrawn the rape allegation.
The non-governmental organisation, Stand to End Rape (STER) that had supported Seyitan since she raised her case, also confirmed the development in a tweet.
