Kashim Shettima, Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, has finally opened up on the reason he wore he wore gym shoes to the Nigeria Bar Association conference in Lagos on Monday, August 22.
The outfit triggered hilarious and in some cases derogatory reactions on social media.
The development trended to the extent that the Twitter community created a trend tagged #ShettimaChallenge
Many Nigerian Twitter users showed images of people in various sizes of suits with comic-looking red ties and pairs of gym shoes seated and looking timid, subdued or bored.
Shettima’s fans and image-makers including the Minister of State for Labour and employment, Festus Keyamo made attempts justified the dressing by wearing a more tolerable combination.

Defending his outfit himself, on Thursday, the former Borno governor said he had received word that there was a gang up against him, so he decided to throw them off with his outfit.
He noted that the outfit was delibrately worn to throw people off during the campaign.
“I was in Lagos for the NBA conference. It used to hold at Eko Hotel and was largely funded by the APC government of Lagos state”
He continued; “Subsequently, they moved it to Eko Atlantic; a product of an idea sanctioned by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu
“One of the candidates, he funded his agents and they held meetings for 3 consecutive nights to cause mischief
“When I was told that is was a hostile crowd, I deliberately wore sneakers.”
