Sir Victor Uwaifo’s family has revealed the cause of his death which occurred on Saturday, 28th of August.
Initial reports said had that the legendary musician and Doctor of Visual Arts died after a brief illness in his home town of Benin City, at the age of 80.
However, in an interview with The Nation on Sunday morning, the late singer’s nephew, Peter de Rock disclosed that he died of a chest infection that affected his lungs.
He added that the master guitarist was supported with oxygen until he died.
According to De Rock, “Sir Victor Uwaifo died of chest infection which affected his lungs, thereby leading to difficulties in br”That’s why he was supported with oxygen.”
The gospel musician who collaborated with Sir Uwaifo barely a week ago on a song titled ‘Hallelujah’ said that it is likely the burial arrangement is carried out next week.
The late ‘Guitar boy’ was awarded with the National Merit Honours of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) in 1983 for his contributions to the entertainment industry in Nigeria.
Born March 1 1941 in Benin City, the music maestro and lover of fine arts will be remember as the first Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism in Nigeria.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts graduating with a First Class and the valedictorian for the his set; A Masters and Ph.D in Architectural Sculpture, all from the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria.
