Talented Nollywood actress, Lizzy Gold Onuwaje, has taken to her official Instagram page to apologize to people from Igbo land regarding the photos she posted on Instagram on Friday.
The beautiful Itsekiri actress, who hails from Warri South in Delta State, has pleaded with everyone from Igbo land to forgive her for wearing an outfit that is considered forbidden for women in their culture.
Lizzy earlier posted photos of herself dressed in a masquerade outfit as part of her role in a new movie. However, this sparked negative reactions from her fans, especially those from the Igbo ethnic group, who pointed out that it is culturally prohibited for women to wear the attire. Some even threatened to harm her if she ever steps foot in their land.
Expressing her remorse, Lizzy Gold apologized to the Igbo people in a video post and promised never to repeat the mistake. She clarified that her intention was not to disrespect their culture but simply to portray her character in the movie.
In a video, she said, “Some Igbo people said they will beat me up anytime I enter their land. I’m sorry, my Igbo people. I only wore the masquerade outfit to show off my new role, not to disrespect your culture. Please, I’m sorry.”
