The federal government of Nigeria has stated that some Nigerians trapped in war-torn Ukraine have refused to come back home.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama disclosed this in Abuja, on Monday in the course of a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Onyeama stated that, “We hope to start evacuation hopefully Wednesday, although some do not want to come back. We are doing everything possible to ensure that come Wednesday, we will dispatch planes for evaluation.”

He said further that the government had made provisions for Nigerians who were presently in neighbouring countries pending their evacuation.

Gbajabiamila also promised that the House of Rep would give its support in accelerating the evacuation process.

He said: “It is the moral thing to do. Therefore, if there is anything the House can do to accelerate their (Nigerians) safe return, let us know.”
