One of Nigeria’s 1990s music sensation, Olanrewaju Fasasi popular known as Sound Sultan has been diagnosed with throat cancer.
SaharaReporters says he is battling the disease in a hospital in the United States of America where he commenced chemotherapy.
Chemotherapy is an aggressive form of chemical medication used to destroy rapidly growing cells in the body. It is the most reliable way to treat cancer as cancer cells grow and divide faster than any other cell in the body.
Sound Sultan became popular in the 90s when he hosted shows to raise money for studio sessions.
He won several local talent-hunt shows by 1999 and soon after, released his first successful single ‘Jagbajantis in 2000.
He also independently released other singles and featured other artists’ hit songs and was signed by Kennis Music.
Sound Sultan had a working relationship with Wyclef Jean. He featured on ‘Proud to be African’ alongside 2face Idibia and Faze on Wyclef’s ‘Welcome to Haiti.’
He is regard as one of the pacesetters of modern hip hop music in Nigeria.
