South Africa Receives First Batch of Covid19 Vaccine (video)

South Africa has received its first batch of #COVID19 vaccines. The batch was received today, 1st February 2021.

The shipment arrived the country with one million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca brand.

They were received by South African Pesident, Cyril Ramaphosa at the O R Tambo International Airport.

Reports say that another half a million doses of the vaccine would arrive before the end of February.

The second batch is produced by the Serum Institute of India.

The vaccines would only be administered to citizens after a two-week quarantine.

It is after the quarantine that the doses will be given to about 1.2 million health workers being the the first target recipients.

South Africa is the first African country ahead of Nigeria’s to receive the covid19 vaccines and presumably the country with the highest number of cases.

Statistics also show that it is the only African country actually running testes aggressively.

So far, 1.45 million people are reported to have been infected with 44,000 fatalities.

The fatalities are also seen as at the highest reported in Africa.
