Confusion ensued on Thursday as persons suspected to be hoodlums beat up activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore outside the Federal High Court premises in Abuja this morning.
The Revolution Now convener was beaten up at the Federal High Court during the hearing of the case between the Federal Government and the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The former presidential candidate had arrived to witness proceedings at the hearing but was denied access into the courtroom by a joint team of security operatives including the police and the DSS.
Reports from the journalists present at the scene of the attack said the suspected hoodlums numbering about 20 arrived while Sowore was still enquiring from the security operatives, reasons he was denied entrance into the courtroom.
The journalists described the hoodlums as rough-looking and unkempt. They descended on Sowore, dealing him countless punches.
To the alleged victim’s utter surprise, the security operatives did nothing to stop the assailants, but simply watched the entire brutality.
It took shoutings from eyewitnesses for the security agents to save Sowore, while none of the attackers was arrested.
The scenario sparked outrage from onlookers forcing the security operatives to pick some of the hoodlums before they disappeared completely.
The security operatives reportedly got hostile after the situation with the hoodlums and started hitting people including journalists with sticks.
They also threatened some journalists not to record the scene.
