The Coordinator of Revolution Now and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 election, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised the emergence of Nigeria as 3rd best English speaking country in Africa.
The ranking also placed her at 28th globally in a recent English Proficiency Index ranking.
The Education First ranking, which was released in November 2022, was for countries classified as non-native English speaking.
20 African countries appeared in the ranking, with South Africa ranked 12th globally and first in Africa, while Kenya ranks 20th globally and 2nd in Africa, and Nigeria emerges third best in Africa and 28th globally.
Others on the list in Africa are Ghana which ranked 41st globally and 4th in Africa, and Uganda, which ranked 55th globally and 5th in Africa, amongst others.
The Netherlands stands at the number one global spot, while Singapore takes the second position in the EF EPI 2022 edition was calculated using test data from 2.1 million test takers in 2021.
In his reaction, Sowore took to his Twitter handle on Monday, Sowore to say that ranking Nigeria as the third Best English-Speaking Nation In Africa and 28th globally is a colonial mentality.
Omoyele Sowore wrote: “Nigeria Ranks 3rd Best English-Speaking Nation In Africa, 28th Globally” – Colonial Mentality!”
