Speaker Abbas, Deputy Kanu Felicitate with CJN Kekere-Ekun

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Abbas Tajudeen and Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, have congratulated the new Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

The Speaker, Abbas and Deputy Speaker, Kalu said the appointment of Kekere-Ekun would enhance efficiency of the judicial system considering her experience.

In their separate statements on Saturday, Abbas and Kalu assured the new Chief Justice that the 10th House would work with the judiciary to deepen Nigeria’s democracy.

Abbas said: “I congratulate Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun on her swearing-in as the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) on Friday.

“Judging from the pedigree of the acting CJN, I believe Justice Kekere-Ekun would bring reforms that would enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Nigeria’s judicial system.

“The 10th House is ready to work with the judiciary under Justice Kekere-Ekun’s leadership to deepen Nigeria’s democracy.

“I wish the acting CJN a successful tenure. I urge her to uphold the principle of fairness and justice in undertaking this serious national assignment.

“I also commend Justice Ariwoola for his efforts towards reforming the judicial arm of the government while wishing him happy retirement.

On his part, Kalu stated that as chairman of the House Committee on Constitutional Review, the House would work with the new Acting Chief Justice to achieve the desired judicial reforms.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun on her appointment as the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) on Friday.

“Given her impeccable track record, I am confident that Justice Kekere-Ekun will influence key legal reforms that will have positive impact on the entire justice ecosystem and enhance the effectiveness of our judicial system.

“As the chairman, House Committee on Constitutional Review, we will work together to achieve the desired judicial reforms that will ultimately depeen democratic practice and rule of law in Nigeria.

“I wish the Acting CJN a successful tenure and encourage her to uphold the principles of fairness and justice as she undertakes this critical national responsibility,” Kalu said.
