A sting operation has been launched by the joint task force of the Nigerian Army, police and the Lagos State Neighbourhood Watch, the state vigilante group.
This follows consistent traffic gridlock that appears to make a mockery of the federal and state governments’ stay-at-home directive.
Both arms of government issued a stay-at-home order to curb infections of the very contagious coronavirus disease.
Sunday the 5th was a standstill for vehicles plying the Lekki/Epe Expressway. A number of people spent the night in traffic, arriving home in the morning.
Next day, Monday, 6th of April was no different. Tuesday the 7th was no less harrowing.
By today, 8th April, a sing operation was launched by the task force comprising the the police and the military to ensure compliance with the government order.
Fitness enthusiasts are the first culprits as they were rounded up this morning at the Gbagada General Hospital play ground and thoroughly drilled by men of the task force.
Residents within the Lekki/Epe axis have sent messages round their WhatsApp groups warning friends and relatives to stay away from the expressway in order not to be a victim.

After the outcry of so many Nigerians, Gbagada gym enthusiasts in Lagos were the first culprits as they were round up by men of the sting operation and given the military drills.
One observer posted on social media, “they were going around in numbers trying to keep fit, some of them have been caught and punished by soldiers.”
Another observer posted: “They are being punished by the military personnel for coming out to exercise despite lockdown order”
