Strike looms again as ASUU threatens to down tools following it svarious disagreements with the Federal Government over funding and payroll issues.
Reports say that the union threatens to begin the strike today, 31st of August if the Federal Government does not implement the agreement it signed with the union.
Public universities across the country may be shut down if the lingering dispute is not resolved.
ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke told newsmen on Sunday, August 29 that the Federal Government stopped communicating with them.
He particularly accused the government of refusing to pick their calls.
“The government has refused to reach out to us. Government officials have stopped, in fact, they don’t take our calls again. Nigerians should tell the government to do what they agreed to do.
“We signed an agreement and even in May, we reached a final agreement; this is August and nothing has been implemented. Does it make any sense ? We are giving them till the end of Augus and after that, we start the procedures.”
ASUU claims that the government has not addressed the discrepancies around the integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System and other issues in the agreement that led to the suspension of the strike on the 24th of December, 2020.
