The Final year Nigerian university student of Federal University in Dutse, Aminu Muhammed Adamu jailed for criticising the first lady, Aisha Buhari has finally been released.
The 400-level student was released from detention on Friday evening.
Security operatives trailed and apprehended Aminu on the 18th of November following his post on Twitter accusing Buhari’s wife of feeding fat off the funds of the poor masses.
Upon his arrest he was arraigned before a High Court in Abuja on the 30th of November.
The development stirred reaction online as Nigerians called for the unconditional release of the final-year student.
Apparently pressured by the public outrage, Mrs Buhari, on Friday withdrew the suit filed against Aminu.
The prosecution counsel, Fidelis Ogbobe on Friday said the First Lady decided to withdraw the case due to the intervention of well-meaning Nigerians.
Ogbode relied on Section 108 subsection 2(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act to move the application for the withdrawal of the case.
Justice Halilu Yusuf of the FCT High Court while ruling on the matter, praised Aisha for her bold step to forgive the accused.
The judge, while issuing the release warrant of Aminu called on parents to monitor their children to avoid the recurrence of the situation.
